The Holocaust Museum, beyond the tragedy of the Greek Jews

Thessaloníki’s Holocaust Museum, to open in 2019

The American Sephardi Federation commends Yiannis Boutaris, Mayor of Thessaloníki, Greece, for his decision to build a Holocaust Museum and Educational Center, which is slated to open in 2019.

The museum will sit at the spot from which, during WWII, 55,000 Sephardic Jews were sent by train to their deaths. According to Professor Giorgos Antoniou: “The Holocaust Museum, beyond the tragedy of the Greek Jews – Eλληνοεβραίος, beyond the tragedy of Thessaloniki’s Jews, represents the tragedy of the Sephardic Jews.” (“A global monument against racism in Thessaloniki” By Giota Mirtsioti, Kathimerini English Edition, http://stfi.re/jejbonn).
