27th NY Sephardic Jewish Film Festival – Festival Sefarad

“The NY Sephardic Film Festival is a celebration of the diversity of Sephardic culture and identity. With World, U.S. and NY premieres our movies are a reflection of the vibrant lives—past and present—of Sephardic Jews throughout the world: from Israel, the US and Europe. Like a good wine, the NY Sephardic Film Festival is getting better every year!” ~ASF Vice President & Festival Chair Raquel Benatar Laredo

Join us next Sunday, 8 June, at El Museo del Barrio, NYC’s leading Latino cultural institution located on 5th Avenue’s “Museum Mile” (1230 5th Avenue), for Opening Night of the 27th NY Sephardic Jewish Film Festival – Inaugural Festival Sefarad NYC.

Opening Night will feature a performance by the acclaimed Brazilian Sephardic singer Fortuna with the Trio Mediterraneo and Grammy-winning trumpeter and co-founder of The Klezmatics, Frank London. We will also be bestowing the ASF Pomegranate Awards to most deserving and outstanding Sephardic Jewish artists, writers, actors, directors and performers.

This year’s awardees are Fortuna (Fortunee Safdié Joyce), Yael Naim, whose song “New Soul” catapulted to No. 7 on the Billboard Chart after being chosen by Steve Jobs for the first MacBook Air commercial, Michel Boujenah, the famous French Tunisian Sephardic comedian and Cesar Award winning actor, and Roya Hakakian, the highly regarded and successful Iranian American Jewish journalist, lecturer, and writer.
