New Works Wednesdays with Yehonatan Elazar-DeMota

Join us for the first in our Fall 2021 New Works Wednesdays series with Dr. Hakham Yehonatan Elazar-DeMota!

Ahabath Yehonatan is a Sepharadi book containing blessings for Shabbath and other festivities, and songs stemming from Sepharad, North Africa, the Balkans, and the Caribbean. This book was redacted and published with the intention of providing Spanish-speaking Sepharadim with a rich resource to enhance the Jewish cultural experience. There are songs in Spanish, Djidiyo, Heketiyá, Arabic, and Hebrew. As an added help, the Hebrew songs have Spanish transliteration. It measures 6 x 4 inches, small enough to carry in a purse or pocket.

About the editor:
Dr. Hakham Yehonatan Elazar-DeMota ס״ט was born in Miami. He comes from a long line of Sephardic families from Spain, Portugal and North Africa, which established themselves in the Caribbean before migrating to the United States of America. He began his rabbinic education under Hakham Yosef Benarroch and received dayyanut ordination from Hakham Mordekhay Levi de Lopes. He is a certifed shohet and mohel, serving as rabbi to the Sepharadi community in the Dominican Republic.

Apart from rabbinic studies, H. Elazar-DeMota has a Master’s degree in Anthropology and Religious Studies from Florida International University and a PhD in International Law from the University of Amsterdam. H. Elazar-DeMota is a the author of numerous books and articles on Western Sephardic Jewry.
