Should non-technical considerations, such as the consequences of various halakhic options and values not previously associated with the halakhic case at hand, have an influence on rabbinic decisions? Many Sephardic rabbis in modern times held that the answer was clearly affirmative, and blazed the path of what may be characterized as “Teleological Decision Making in Halakha”. In this short series of we shall read together real-life sources reflecting that Sephardic halakhic path, and discuss possible implications for Jewish life in today’s world.
